pH in Refining & Petrochemical
The petrochemical and refining industries utilize water as a critical component. Monitoring and controlling pH throughout multiple stages of the production process is essential.
In the petrochemical process, pH is measured both upstream and downstream. Upstream applications include fracking, drilling, and exploratory operations. Downstream applications include wet gas scrubber, merox (mercaptan removal), and wastewater generated within the plant. In refining, where fuel, lubricants, and other distillate end products are generated, the pH of water is a processing requirement and an indicator of potential contaminants. Sour water stripping, cracker scrubbers, and corrosion control in piping systems are examples where pH measurement is used for monitoring and control.
