Chemical production plants manufacture high quality finished goods and raw materials. pH measurement of the entire process, including raw water used in production, is a critical tool for quality, safety, and performance. Where and how pH is measured varies widely in this broad-based industry. For example in the production of chlorine gas and sodium hydroxide, the starting brine solutions are monitored continuously to improve operating efficiency, reduce energy consumption, and prevent incidents. Both continuous and benchtop pH measurements are used in the chemical production industry.  Various insertions (mechanical assemblies) and specialized housing materials are designed to ensure chemical compatibility for the specific measurement process.
