ORP in Semiconductor

The semiconductor industry fabricates chipsets, wafers, and printed circuit boards. These processes require ultrapure water for cleaning, rinsing, etching, and surface conditioning. Oxidation-reduction potential (ORP or REDOX) measurements in semiconductor applications can aid in various process controls such as:

  • Etching of Metals (chrome reduction reactions)
ORP measurements in ultrapure water production can ensure ion-exchange systems will not be damaged by the presence of incoming oxidants. In both applications, wastewater and reclamation water can utilize ORP measurements in standard effluent characterization for best treatment strategies. Sensor shape, sensor material, and reference junctions are critical design considerations when choosing the appropriate ORP sensor.
