ORP in Chemical Production
Chemical production plants manufacture high quality finished goods and raw materials. Oxidation-reduction potential (ORP or REDOX) measurement of the entire process, including raw water used in production, is a critical tool for quality, safety, and performance.
ORP measurements are an invaluable tool to understand the status of the targeted oxidation-reduction reaction at many places along the production, cleaning, or quality control processes. For example, in the production of bleach, ORP can be used to indicate when the proper ratio of chlorine and sodium hydroxide (caustic) is achieved. At the effluent end of many chemical production processes, ORP measurement is a useful tool in the treatment / mitigation of metals and cyanides. Various mechanical insertion assemblies and specialized housing materials are designed to ensure chemical compatibility for the specific measurement process.
