Mechanical Assemblies

Mechanical assemblies allow a sensor to be inserted and removed from process under rated pressure and temperature without draining the system, shutting down a line, or requiring a bypass arrangement. Specific mechanical designs offer convenience, safety, efficiency, chemical compatibility, and the ability to avoid downtime.

AlpHa has two main types of mechanical assemblies: retractable insertions / ball valve assemblies and standard mechanical assemblies. A “hot-tap” or “live-tap” retractable insertion is needed for applications where the process cannot be drained or interrupted prior to inserting or removing the sensor. Applications where the process will be drained prior to inserting the sensor, a standard mechanical assembly is preferred. Both types can be customized based on the process requirements.
  • Retractable Insertions / Ball Valve Assemblies
    • Mark VII: Preferred design for difficult applications requiring a purge / flushing port to safely decontaminate the pH, ORP, or conductivity (retractable conductivity) sensor before removal. Ability to be mounted or adapted onto a weld-o-let, a pipe tee, or flange using the popular 1 inch process connection. Sensor connections terminate inside an explosion-proof junction box to reduce maintenance downtime. Material options include 316 stainless steel, Hastelloy-C, and Kynar with adjustable standard insertion lengths from 6 to 34 inches. Custom options available upon request.
    • Mark X:  Remote automation of pH or ORP sensor insertion, retraction, and maintenance with pneumatic operation, flushing ports, and proximity switches. Material options include 316 stainless steel and Hastelloy-C with fixed insertion length options of 3, 5, 7, and 10 inches. Also available in the popular 1 inch process connection.
    • VLTTA Live Tap: A pulp and paper industry proven design, the VLTTA Live Tap is fitted with a 1.5 inch ball valve. The sensor can be removed for maintenance without shutting down the process. Material options include 316 stainless steel, Hastelloy-C, and titanium with adjustable standard insertion lengths from 6 to 42 inches. Custom options available upon request.
    • Lock-N-Load – This unique design allows a quarter turn to quickly isolate the sensor from the process to perform calibration and maintenance. Additional hardware or special tools are not required to insert or retract a sensor. A wide selection of pH, ORP, and conductivity sensors are available. Material options include 316 stainless steel, Kynar, and CPVC in 1 or 1.5 inch assemblies.
  • Standard Mechanical Assemblies
    • Twist-Lock: This custom adapter enables quick removal and replacement of sensors with only a quarter turn. The twist-lock design allows the sensor to be installed anywhere a ¾ or 1 inch pipe tee is desired. Material options include stainless steel, Hastelloy-C, Kynar, and CPVC.
    • Compression Fittings: A user friendly assembly, like a gland fitting, provides insertion capabilities for sensors without mounting hardware.
  • Holders and Adapters: Economical options that can enable standard 12mm sensors to be installed in submersible or in-line process applications. Custom options include varied materials and process connections for the following examples:
    • Submersible: With the help of a two-piece adapter and an extension pipe, sensors can be easily submerged into a large tank or vessel while protecting the sensor and cable. Suitable for aggressive chemical processes as well as processes with hygienic requirements.
    • Threaded: A threaded holder enabling installation of a standard 12mm sensor into a ¾ or 1 inch NPT process connection.
    • Tank Fitting: These adapters allow for adjustment of sensor depth in applications where liquid levels tend to vary.
AlpHa offers customizable mechanical assemblies that are readily available to the specific needs of the application or electrode design. Please find more details regarding different options below by clicking the picture of the desired mechanical assembly.
