Conductivity in Ballast Water Treatment

Conductivity in Ballast Water Treatment

In the measurement of salt water, conductivity is a key parameter for quantifying the salinity of the water. Salinity, similar to total dissolved solids (TDS), validates the expected salts present in the water. Applicable to rules and regulations, during ballast water treatment ships may intake and exchange water with varying levels of salinity. Having an awareness of the conductivity allows operators to manage exchange methods that ensure protection of the water environment where ballast water is released. When chlorine is generated by electrolysis, the ballast water is conditioned to kill unwanted organisms. Understanding the conductivity (salinity or TDS), is important to know for performance, power, and treatment adjustments. AlpHa has sensor solutions uniquely tailored to each application, including continuous (process) monitoring sensors and laboratory / field electrodes.
