Conductivity in Chemical Production
The utility of conductivity sensors in chemical production facilities ranges from ensuring ultrapure water specifications are achieved to characterizing a slurry, or other matrix, at a saturated extreme. Conductivity or total dissolved solids (TDS) measurements are utilized to control feed to a chemical process and finished product characterization. Conductivity measurements are also used to ensure corrosion control, purity, or treatment strategies where water is used for temperature control, cleaning / rinsing, or production of wastewater. AlpHa has sensor solutions uniquely tailored to each application, including continuous (process) monitoring sensors, laboratory / field electrodes, and cartridge options for multiparameter / sonde.
AlpHa’s conductivity portfolio includes contacting (2 cell, 3 cell, and 4 cell), and toroidal (inductive) sensing technologies. Conductivity sensors feature a range of cell constants (K value), including 0.01, 0.1, 1.0, and 10, specialized housing materials, and various mechanical assemblies. Mechanical assemblies, such as “hot-tap” or “live-tap” retractable insertions, enable the sensor to be inserted or removed where the process cannot be drained or interrupted. Additional configuration options include temperature range from -5 to 200°C, conductivity range from 0.055 µS/cm to 1,000 mS/cm, and customized outputs to seamlessly integrate with third party equipment.
