Free & Total Chlorine in Power Generation

Careful monitoring of the chlorine concentration in cooling tower water is critical to preventing biofouling and reducing corrosion in the piping system.  Cooling towers are a critical component of power production, petrochemical, HVAC, and other industrial applications where large volumes of water need to be cooled in a heat-exchange process. Proper chlorination is critical to maintain that water and prevent biofouling. Without chlorine, many problems may arise, including odors, water obstruction, cooling performance issues and microbiology induced corrosion (MIC), as well as human safety concerns from pathogens and bacteria such as Legionella outbreaks. However, too much chlorine can lead to corrosion in the cooling system. Constant, precise monitoring of chlorine levels is essential. AlpHa’s RC68 and RC67 chlorine sensors provide a continuous, direct measurement of chlorine in parts per million (ppm).
