The proper treatment of ballast water is critical to safeguard local environments. The purpose of this treatment is to mitigate the introduction of non-native organisms, including fish, plant life, and microscopic organisms.\u00a0For ballast water treatment, an oxidation-reduction potential (ORP or REDOX) sensor is used to monitor the disinfection process (or reaction) by chlorine or other oxidants still in process. ORP measurements allow adjustments in chlorine production to save power or improve performance. Because ballast water is a closed or controlled system, ORP is a method to employ versus other measurements that may be specific to chlorine.<\/p><p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 13.5pt; font-family: Montserrat; color: #525252;\"><\/span><\/strong><\/p><div data-id=\"c88e286\" data-element_type=\"column\"><div><div data-id=\"58acb694\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\"><div><div id=\"read719077842\"><p>Cold samples and high levels of salinity can compound the difficulty in measuring ORP.
